So one thing I would say before I try and give you some damn fine reasons to get going is to get yourself up early tomorrow. Now I mean REAL early like 5am. The fresh air and the walk I want you to take will do you good anyway. Go down to your local park for a stroll.
See that group of ladies/men/children/aliens/elephants (Substitute your term of choice here). Yes the ones in the Lycra and sneakers, running about like mad things, sweating and yes, smiling. That is probably your local fitness bootcamp group going through their routines. Not very army like is it. That’s my point. Things have changed a lot in recent times. I will tell you something as well. Whilst you are struggling through the day, trying to stay awake, stressing out over how picky accounts or marketing are being, they will be floating through their day, relaxed and full of energy. Not a stress monster in sight.

You will probably be swearing all sorts of threats at me now as you hurt all over, dying to be sick, sweating an ocean at your first fitness bootcamp session. But like most things this will pass as you persist and get fitter. You will see that I am right though. Everyone else in your new starter’s fitness bootcamp classes will be in the same shoes as you.
But as you progress and stick it out you will naturally buddy up with someone. This is the first positive motivator. You don’t show and she will be left on her own and vice versa. A self inflicted guilt trip does wonders. But you will talk and you will push each other on, share lifts, buses, trains or walks to get to the bootcamp venue. As soon as this happens life changes more of you will start to interact. The exercises become fun as you laugh with each other, struggle together and celebrate when there is a victory. Hey even your trainer will probably get in on the act as he or she gets to know you and what exercises you all like.
A Fitness Bootcamp Workout Does The Business Fast
While you are having fun, making friends, and generally liking the buzz of it all you will suddenly realize something. Those jeans are not leaving flesh wounds any more and your favorite shirt fits again. The intensity of what you have been doing will be like a light bulb in your brain. The really wobbly fat has gone and fast emerging underneath is a set of leaner firmer muscles.
The kids are screaming and fighting, but you take it all in your stride. The stress you once felt has gone. If you have a partner, then you will also notice that other areas of your life are even better. Best not to go further on that one, just get your partner signed up as well for the maximum effect!
You have started taking stairs instead of the elevator by choice and not ended up collapsing half way up. It is a strange feeling. Most people when they try to get fit expect an effect as though a switch has been flicked. It doesn’t work that way. The great thing is that you will get that euphoria a lot quicker with a fitness bootcamp workout than a gym. Taking of which…..
Fitness Bootcamps Don’t Stink
Now that is a bit harsh, especially on some of the newer shiny, air conditioned gyms, but that aroma is still there. In some places you can positively cut the air with a knife. I never found it fun at all to spend much time at all in a gym. It is a very claustrophobic atmosphere, full of sweat, testosterone and raging egos. The fact is that you tend to feel as though everyone is watching you and the equipment trainer you are sure is sniggering behind your back. All this leads to a feeling of paranoia that leads you to stop going very quickly. Or is that just me. Let me know in the comments if you think I am being too unfair.
But most fitness bootcamp classes are in the open air. In some cases it might be in the smog filled cities of our great nation, but at least it is outside, which gives us that little feeling of release and freedom. The only music you might be subjected to is that of nature and the natural light of the sun, rather than dodgy piped tunes and a fluorescent tube tan.
